At the Department of General Surgery of the Belarusian State Medical University, students of the II and III courses of medical, pediatric, military medical and medical foreign students of faculties (including in English) study discipline “General Surgery”, students of the III course of dental ( including in English) and III - IV courses of the medical and preventive faculties study “Surgical diseases”, together with “Manipulation technique and surgical care” for students of the II-III course of the General medicine faculty.
With the direct participation of the General Surgery department, the most complex and high-tech operations are carried out in clinical hospitals of Minsk. More than 27,000 patients are consulted by the staff of the department annually, more than 2,000 operations are performed, of which more than 500 are complex and high-tech, clinical rounds are carried out in surgical departments.
The priority areas are laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery, herniology, surgery of the gastrointestinal tract, osteoplastic operations in patients with osteomyelitis, surgery of chronic wounds.
The department conducts research on the development of modern principles of treatment: obstructive jaundice with cholangitis and cholangiogenic sepsis, chronic post-traumatic osteomyelitis with multicomponent implants with mesenchymal stem cells, abdominal sepsis and peritonitis, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and hiatal hernia, anterior abdominal wall hernia, acute paraproctitis, chronic hemorrhoids, parastomy hernias, plasty of neurotrophic ulcers, erysipelas.
