Pediatric Infectious Diseases

Teaching the academic discipline «Pediatric Infectious Diseases» begins in the 4th year after studying the basic subjects.

The purpose is to develop senior students’ and clinical residents’ academic, social, personal and professional competencies to provide medical care to patients with infectious diseases, to carry out preventive and sanitary and anti-epidemic measures in infectious focus.

The objectives of teaching the academic discipline are to form students' scientific knowledge about the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical scenario, methods of laboratory and instrumental diagnostics, the principles for choosing antimicrobial and antiviral therapy for most common infectious diseases in children, and the skills necessary for:

  • examinations of children with infectious diseases;
  • interpretation of the results of laboratory and instrumental research methods;
  • diagnosis and prescription of etiotropic and pathogenetic treatment of infectious diseases in children;
  • conducting differential diagnosis of an infectious disease in children with diseases of a non-infectious nature;
  • carrying out specific and non-specific prevention of socially significant and most common infectious diseases in children;
  • clinical examination, medical rehabilitation of children with infectious diseases of various localization;
  • carrying out sanitary and anti-epidemic measures in the focus of the disease.
