Scientific research at the Belarusian State Medical University is carried out in accordance with the priority problems of fundamental and applied scientific investigations providing a considerable contribution into the social-economical development of the Republic of Belarus. The Central Scientific Research Laboratory (CSRL) comprising 17 scientific laboratories with the staff of more than 100 scientific researchers and laboratory assistants has been working at the University since 1954. By the bulk of research, technical equipment and high qualification of its staff the CSRL can compete with a research institute. Besides the tasks of various state programs the staff of the University are involved in carrying out innovation projects and the projects financed by the Belarusian Fund of Fundamental Investigations. For a number of years the Belarusian State Medical University, the only educational institution of the country, has been the main organization which fulfilled the work within the framework of two state scientific and technical programmes.
For their great achievements in research work many members of the teaching staff have become Laureats of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus and winners of the country’s contests of postgraduates and talented young scientists. They have also been awarded by the Ministry of Health, by the State Science and Technology Committee and by the Higher Certifying Commission.
The University trains highly-qualified specialists (PhD and Doctorate degree programs encompass 38 scientific specialities). On an average, the members of the teaching staff and postgraduates of the university annually defend 5 theses for the degree of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) and about 30 theses for the PhD degree.
The University has arranged active work of the Students’ Scientific Society. Besides making presentations at the sittings of the society, our students participate in students’ scientific conferences held at the University, where about 1 000 papers are presented annually. They also take part in conferences organized by other medical universities and submit their works for the country’s contest of student’s projects.
