Postgraduate PhD course is the first stage of post-graduate education, the purpose of which is to prepare a thesis for the PhD degree. After graduating the student is awarded a scientific qualification «Researcher». The term of study depends on the form of training: full-time - 3 years, by correspondence – 4-5 years.
Doctoral course is the second stage of Research-based education, the purpose of which is to prepare a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Science. The term of study is 3 years for full-time and 5 years for correspondence course.
Research-based education includes about 50 specialties of medical and biological profile. More than 40 PhD degrees and 3-5 degrees of Doctor of Science are awarded annually.
Those who are going to enter the post-graduate course should:
- have a university degree;
- provide scientific publications (if any), papers on participation in research and innovative projects, conferences, etc.;
- pass PhD examinations and credits in general subjects before entering the post-graduate course;
- have practical work experience of at least two years in positions requiring higher education (for correspondence course only).
Department Research-based Education
At the Belarusian State Medical University, postgraduate and doctoral studies are conducted in Russian language and only on a full-time basis.
